The problem

Why customer counts often don't add up

  • Numbers inflated by staff

Sales assistants, stock handlers and suppliers walk through the door dozens of times a day. A traditional people counter adds them to your customers, and the figure loses its value in exactly the hours that matter.

  • Every door tells a different story

Main entrance, car-park access, side door: if you count only one, or add them up without removing duplicates, you don't know how many different people actually came in.

  • Dedicated hardware in every store

Ceiling sensors and beam counters need installation, cabling and maintenance in every location. And they stay cut off from the rest of your data, from the till to the weather.

How it works

How customer counting with cameras works

No extra sensors: Kontrol Flow uses the IP cameras already installed and analyses them right in the store.

1

We connect the entrance cameras

Together we pick the cameras that cover your doors and entrances: on each one we draw the counting line and mark which entrances are main entrances.

2

We count customers, not staff

The edge device in the store tells customers and staff apart: employees are excluded automatically from every count.

3

No double counts within 30 minutes

Every entrance marked as a main entrance counts visitors; the same customer, tracked anonymously across the cameras, is counted only once within a 30-minute window.

4

You read the numbers in the dashboard

Visitors per hour, per day and per door, the peak hour and the weekly heatmap, live and over time.

What you measure

What you measure with people counting

Unique visitors

Counted across all main entrances: anyone who leaves and comes back within 30 minutes counts only once.

Entries and exits per door

Counts per entrance and direction, to see which door works hardest.

Visitors per hour and peak hour

The busiest hour of each day and the rhythm of entries throughout opening hours.

Weekly traffic heatmap

Day of the week × hour: when the store is busy and when it's empty.

Daily average and trend

Average daily visitors, compared with previous weeks and months.

Store comparison

The same figure for every location in your network, with rankings and a map.

An example

The Saturday that looked normal

A store with two main entrances re-reads a day of traffic after excluding staff and re-entries within 30 minutes.

Who it's for

The same metrics, read through the questions of your industry.

  • Retail & chains

Real footfall for every store in the network: the basis for conversion and value per visitor.

  • Counter-service shops

How many people really come in, to compare with the transactions at the counter.

  • Food service

Customers by time slot, from breakfast to aperitivo, to plan shifts and preparation.

Privacy

We measure flows, not people.

Only anonymous, aggregated data

Numbers leave the store, not images.

No identification

Demographic data only in aggregate, optional, and enabled only after an assessment with your DPO.

Staff are not counted

Employees are automatically excluded from every number.

In-store processing, EU hosting

Images stay on site; aggregated data is hosted in Europe.

Frequently asked questions

In most cases, yes: Kontrol Flow works with the IP cameras already installed. On the first call we check the models and the view of your entrances together and, if needed, suggest how to angle them.
